Multiple Cases Of Raccoon Distemper Reported In Ormond Beach

Posted

Ormond Beach, FL – In the past two weeks, 5 cases of raccoons with Distemper have been reported to the Ormond Beach Police Department around North Beach Street by the Northbrook Subdivision.

Distemper in raccoons can be shown in symptoms like vomiting, runny nose, watery eyes, and diarrhea. These symptoms are often very similar to rabies, making it difficult to tell the difference between the two. These raccoons can show strange behavior and can appear to be confused.

OBPD asks that you do not approach a raccoon that shows any symptoms. You are encouraged to contact Volusia County Central Communications at 386-239-8276 and request a Community Service Officer to take care of the raccoon.
