Daytona Beach, FL - To show how thankful they are, NASCAR and the World Center of Racing team up to feed those at the frontline of the COVID-19 pandemic.
And it wasn't just a one-off deal, they plan to do it the rest of the week.
In a prepared release, NASCAR and the Daytona International Speedway announced that they plan to provide more than 700 complimentary meals to local frontline and essential employees, including education, government, health care, law enforcement and first responders across the Daytona Beach area.
"All of those people are playing a critical role in getting us through this very difficult time," said Chip Wile, president of DIS to News Daytona Beach. "We felt like this is a great opportunity for us to say thank you by providing meals."
According to Chip, firefighters and EMS workers were the first to be fed by the track, with teachers following close behind tomorrow. Chip also stated that while the track isn't holding any races, through this, they can show that the speedway is still around and part of the community.
"It's mission critical that we continue to be a part of the fabric of this community," said Chip.
The speedway will work with local restaurants and local education, government, health care, law enforcement and first responder entities in identifying individuals to provide these complimentary meals over the week.
