New Results Show Flagler Students' Standardized Test Scores Are Improving

Flagler County, FL – Students in Flagler County Schools have made significant improvements in their standardized test scores, according to new test results.

Students in the County took several tests including the Florida Standards Assessments (FSA) in English Language Ars and mathematics and End of Course Exams (EOC) in Algebra 1 and 2, Geometry, Biology, Civics and U.S. History. According to the results released by the Florida Department of Education, there were some significant highlights and several instances of major improvements.

“We are always looking to improve our scores, but I am extremely excited at what we’re seeing with our scores,” says James Tager, Flagler County Schools Superintendent. “You look at the trends and our students are either at or above the state average in every subject but one.”

Below are some FSA test statistics from the report:

  • 58% of Flagler students in grades 3-10 passed the FSA English Language Arts test with a Level 3 or better, compared to the State average of 54%
  • Flagler students in grades 3-5, 6-8 and 9-12 maintained their scores from last year or increased their scores
  • 65% of Flagler students in grades 3-10 passed the FSA Mathematics test with a Level 3 or better, compared to the State average of 59%
  • FSA Mathematics scores increased 2 points from 2016
  • 65% of students in grade 3 passed the FSA English Language Arts test with a 3 or better, 9 points higher than scores in 2015 and 11 points better than the State average

Below are some EOC test statistics from the report:

  • 68% of students in grades 4-12 taking the EOC Algebra 1 test passed with a 3 or higher, compared to last year’s 51%
  • 65% of students taking the EOC Algebra 2 test passed with a 3 or better, compared to last year’s 54% and the State average of 49%

“We want to take a closer look at our high school geometry scores, but I want to congratulate our students, teachers, and staff for working extremely hard and I hope they recognize that hard work is paying off,” says Tager.
