New Smyrna Beach Contributes Three Lots to Affordable Housing Initiative

Posted

The New Smyrna Beach City Commission has donated three properties to be used for affordable housing initiatives. Habitat for Humanity won out among four different applicants to receive the properties.

“We have a huge need, and it is becoming ever more challenging to find individuals that can afford housing given the constraints,” said Mark Billings of Habitat.

The city was required by state law to identify properties for this purpose, and after almost a year of choosing, they found their picks.

The properties are located on Nordman Ave, Auburn Ave, Francis Ave, and Palm St. Representatives from Habitat for Humanity stated that with housing costs going through the roof, it’s becoming increasingly hard for New Smyrna Beach residents to find something within their price range.

The average income needed to rent in New Smyrna is $51,519 according to Housing Authority. The median income of those the service helps is $24,817.
