UPDATE: The lockdown was lifted shortly after 2:00 pm Tuesday, with all students and staff unharmed. The Volusia Sheriff's Office continues to investigate.

Both New Smyrna Beach High School and New Smyrna Beach Middle School were locked down on Tuesday due to a reported threat, according to a statement by the New Smyrna Beach Police Department. The police informed the public at 11:38 am.

No specifics were given in the initial statement, but an update was delivered by the NSBPD at 12:00 pm. In that second statement, they confirmed that officers with both their own and other law enforcement agencies were searching the high school campus for firearms after a report that one might be present there.

As of that second update, no firearms had been discovered. Both campuses remain on lockdown as a result of the threat as of early Tuesday afternoon, with additional updates expected to come from the New Smyrna Beach Police Department. The Volusia Sheriff's Office, who are also on-scene, confirmed that no shots were reported to have been fired, and no one is believed to have been injured at this time.
