NSB Officials Say New Fishing Pier At Buena Vista Park To Open Sometime This Month

Project At 87% Substantial Completion

New Smyrna Beach, FL - The Buena Vista Park fishing pier in New Smyrna Beach was shut down in March 2020, not due to COVID-19 but because there were concerns about its structural integrity and public safety. The decision to build a replacement was approved in April of this year, and now the new fishing pier has reached 87% substantial completion while crews continue to make progress. The project was 50 percent funded by a Florida Inland Navigation District grant

"This pier will have lighting, benches, and fish cleaning stations," said Maintenance Operations Director Faith Miller. "In addition, the handrails are made of a recycled composite deck material that should result in fewer accidental splinters for our residents and visitors."

The new pier is expected to open to the public sometime this month.
