PORT ORANGE, Fla. - One individual is dead and another wounded after a shooting in Port Orange that apparently stemmed from a domestic disturbance. The Port Orange Police Department described an incident between a couple in their home on Saturday at around 8:30 pm.

The nature of the conversation that led to the shooting still isn't clear, but police say it started between the shooter, a 73 year-old man, and his 43 year-old partner. The man is said to have then shot the woman, before then himself being shot by the couple's roommate, who was acting in self defense. The woman was severely injured, while the shooter was pronounced dead at the scene.

Several residents of the neighborhood the shooting occurred in expressed their surprise at the proximity of a violent incident. Most have long known the area as peaceful and low crime.

As of now the Port Orange Police Department is still investigating the violent incident. Anyone with information that could assist with the investigation is asked to contact Detective Lance Morris, at (386) 506-5813.
