One Man Dead After Officer-Involved Shooting In Daytona Beach

Posted

Daytona Beach, FL - A wanted man is dead and four officers are on paid leave following a shooting in Daytona Beach.

The Daytona Beach Police Department says several officers were monitoring a man wanted in a shooting around 8 p.m. when he got into the passenger seat of a white car. Officers followed the vehicle until it reached the intersection of Ridgewood Avenue and Beville Road, where they boxed it in.

When the man refused to get out of the car, officers sent in a K-9 unit. As the K-9 struggled to get him out of the car, the man appeared to reach for a firearm in the car which is when officers opened fire. He later died from his injuries at Halifax Health Medical Center. The four officers that opened fire have since been placed on administrative leave while the Florida Department of Law Enforcement investigates—which is standard in this scenario.

The officers remain unidentified as the investigation continues, and the suspect's name has been withheld, pending next of kin notification.

We'll pass along updates as they come.
