Daytona Beach, FL - Daytona Beach Police are investigating a motorcycle death even before the official start of Daytona Beach Bike Week.

A 34-year-old Ormond Beach man is dead after being involved in a crash with a 2017 Honda Civic.  Police say he was not wearing a helmet.

The accident happened on A-1-A at Plaza Boulevard, just north of Bellair Plaza, yesterday just after 7:30 p.m.  DBPD's Traffic Homicide Unit said that the driver of the Civic, a 19-year-old Daytona Beach man, was stopped in the northbound lanes of A-1-A, waiting to make a left turn (west) on to Plaza Boulevard. As he was making the turn, his vehicle struck the left side of the victim's Harley-Davidson as it was crossing the intersection in the southbound lanes.

The impact knocked the motorcycle ride off and onto the ground which led to him transported from the scene as a trauma alert.  He passed away soon after arriving at Halifax Health Medical Center.

The driver of the Civic stayed on the scene and called 9-1-1. Police say he was cooperative with investigators and was released from the scene. No other people were involved in the accident.

DBPD Public Information Officer Messod Bendayan said that detectives are working to determine several aspects of the incident, including who had the right-of-way.

At this time, no charges have been filed.
