Still faces multiple other charges

Daytona Beach, FL - A man accused of supplying the fentanyl that killed a 22-year-old woman last year was found not guilty by a Volusia County jury.

But, he's not out of the courtroom yet.

While he's no longer facing first-degree murder charges, 27-year-old John Mai will still face different charges from other cases. Those charges include trafficking, distribution and fleeing from law enforcement.

Mai was indicted last July in the death of 22-year-old Samantha Stefanczak last March. Stefanczak was found in the passenger seat of a car, unresponsive. Responding crews tried reviving her with Narcan, but she did not wake up. She was then taken to Halifax Health Medical Center in Daytona Beach, where she was later pronounced dead.

If he was convicted guilty on his murder charges, Volusia County Sheriff Mike Chitwood told News Daytona Beach that he would have spent the rest of his life behind bars.
