Palm Coast, FL – As a precaution, the Palm Coast City Marketplace was evacuated when a resident brought a munition to the Flagler Sheriff’s District Office.
On Saturday afternoon, someone brought the munition into the Palm Coast Flagler Sheriff's District Office located at 160 Cypress Point Parkway. The St. Johns County Sheriff’s Office bomb squad responded and took the munition to St. Johns County so they could safely dispose of it.
Businesses in the area were allowed to re-open around 3 PM Saturday when the scene was deemed safe. As of Saturday evening, Flagler County Sheriff's Office (FCSO) deputies were searching the area where the munition was found to make sure there were no other potentially dangerous objects.
The FCSO says that if you ever find something that can be dangerous, you are asked to call authorities first. Then, professionals with proper training will be able to examine and remove the object safely.
“If you find something that you aren’t sure of, call the Sheriff’s Office and let us determine the next course of action. Do not touch it,” says Flagler County Sheriff, Rick Staly. “We’re thankful that today’s event is under control and that no one was injured. Our thanks go out to St. John’s County Sheriff’s Office for coming to retrieve the munition.”
