Passenger Traffic Up 3.6% Past 12 Months At DBIA

Daytona Beach, FL - The latest numbers from Daytona Beach International Airport shows that passenger traffic increased almost 4% in a 12 month period.

That 12 month period, which ended on May 30th, saw 757,874 passengers come through the county-operated airport this year compared to the 731,487 last year.

Although the numbers do show that May did take a bit of a hit during that period.

That's after staff at DBIA noticed a 6.8% decrease in passenger traffic this May when compared to the same time last year.

During the month, 63,751 passengers flew in or out of the facility, compared to the 68,418 passengers last year.

"Last May, JetBlue accounted for over 8,100 passengers," said Rick Karl, the airport's director. "However, traffic this month was down only 4,667 passengers, meaning our two air carriers grew in May."

According to Karl, American Airlines has grown by 21% while Delta grew by only 2% compared to last year's numbers. That means that both carriers are on pace to have record passenger traffic numbers this year at Daytona.

Karl also added that the passenger traffic increases for America is particularly impressive and the addition of their LaGuardia service shows they're committed to the market.

Although, despite growth, some residents are concerned about the future of some carriers after Silver Airways announced that they would end their service to and from Daytona Beach.

In fact, that service officially ended yesterday (June 30th).

But, Daytona is still hopeful that their renovations and upgrades will inspire some airlines to expand or begin service to and from the World's Most Famous Beach.
