Pay Raise For County Attorney, Update On First Step Shelter

DeLand, FL -During today's Volusia County Council meeting decisions were made on the interim county attorney’s compensation, a management company for Votran, and new duties for the county’s Affordable Housing Advisory Committee. They also got a status update on First Step Shelter

After recent turnovers in the county’s legal department, Council made assistant attorney Mike Dyer interim lead attorney. The Council gave him a five percent salary increase and a standard car allowance.

After presentations and a discussion, Council members decided to give a different transit management firm, First Transit, a shot at running the county’s Votran bus service.

The Affordable Housing Advisory Authority had recently asked for more duties. Community Services Director Dona Butler came up with a few.  "They will be part of the review process for affordable housing funding responses. They will also assist with public meetings that are necessary around the community when plans have to be reviewed."

First Step Shelter has been open for a little more than seven weeks. Executive Director Victoria Fahlberg gave a status update and said they are already seeing success. "We've had three people already receive housing vouchers. We have more people that have applied. We have one person already in housing and 12 of our residents have jobs."
