Police: ATM Stolen From Daytona Stadium

Posted
Daytona Beach, FL - There's not much in the way of clues at this point as the Daytona Beach Police Department tries to find whoever stole an automated teller machine with thousands of dollars in cash inside from Daytona Stadium earlier this week. The theft was reported around 8:30 a.m. Wednesday (December 19th) by the stadium manager, according to a DBPD incident report. It looks like whoever took the ATM - a Hyosung "mini-bank" model - ripped it from the asphalt floor it was attached to after breaking into the stadium through a gate, according to DBPD Sergeant Kelsey Harris. "[The] suspect or suspects are unknown at this time," Harris noted. "[There are] no real leads at this time." Investigators believe the machine may have been stolen just after 5 a.m. that morning, but why they believe that was redacted from the report. The stadium manager - who works for DME, the company which leases the facility - told police he found the entrance gate to the north side of the grandstands open when he came in to work along with a chain used to keep the gate closed which was cut open.

Also found open by the manager was the closet door used to keep the ATM inaccessible when the stadium isn't open to the public, but it isn't clear if it was left open or if someone forced it open. The machine itself is valued at $5,000, and the manager told DBPD the machine had around $4,000 in cash inside, per the report.
