Port Orange, FL - The Port Orange chapter of the American Legion suffers heavy damages after an early morning fire fire.

Port Orange Fire & Rescue says units were called to the location found on 171 Howes Street after the fire was reported close to 2:30 this morning.

Reports show that it was the building's alarm system that alerted units to the fire.

Christine Martindale, with the city of Port Orange, says the first units on the scene saw heavy smoke coming from the building.

Most of the fire was also confined to the attic and kitchen area of the building.

According to fire & rescue, both South Daytona and New Smyrna Beach units were also called to help tend to the fire.

No one was in the building at the time of the fire. The cause is currently under investigation.
