Daytona Beach, FL - Even though one candidate received over 50% of the vote, the Volusia County Department of Elections announces that there will be a recount for the race for Daytona Beach mayor.
According to Lisa Lewis, the county's Supervisor of Elections, the 1st unofficial results indicate that of the 12,177 total votes cast; Sherrise Boyd received 2,280 votes for 18.72%, Ken Strickland received 3,796 votes for 31.17% while the incumbent Mayor Derrick Henry received 6,101 votes for 50.10%.
The difference of the total of Boyd and Strickland’s percentages, and Henry’s percentage of votes is less than 1/4 of percent; which means a machine recount is needed.
The recount will take place at 2 p.m. on Friday (August 21st) at the Department of Elections, off of Woodland Boulevard in DeLand. The public is welcome to attend.
If the machine recount indicates that a manual recount is required, the manual recount will begin following the machine recount.
