Ponce Inlet, FL - Volusia County Beach Safety (VCBS) reports that an 8-year-old boy was bit by a shark yesterday (July 4). The boy was in waist-deep water around 4 p.m. at Winterhaven Park when he says a two-to-three foot shark bit him on the leg. He was treated by VCSB then taken in stable condition to Halifax Hospital by Ponce Inlet Fire Rescue.

Despite the rainy weather, a number of people were rescued from the water over the weekend - 12 on Friday, 24 on Saturday, 30 on Sunday, and 60 more on Monday. All rescues, except the shark bite, were without incident.
