Stolen Vehicle Suspect Caught In His Boxer Shorts After 34 Hours On The Run

Bunnell, FL - The suspect in a stolen vehicle case out of Eustis is now in the Flagler County Jail.  The Flagler County Sheriff's Office says 25-year-old Anthony J. Mobley, Jr. is charged with Resisting an Officer without Violence and Violation of Probation.

FCSO was alerted to the stolen vehicle traveling in Flagler County at around 2:30 Wednesday (December 11) morning. Deputies found the suspect with the vehicle getting fuel at a gas station on Boulder Rock Drive a short time later. They attempted a traffic stop once the victim got on I-95 but the suspect did not stop and drove away at a high rate of speed.

Bunnell Police were notified when the vehicle entered their city limits. Officers were able to successfully apply stop sticks, disabling the vehicle. Mobley was not giving up easily and fled the scene on foot into the woods. Police say he was wearing a white shirt, pants, black shoes, and gloves when they saw him leave the area but found those clothes, minus Mobley, during their search.

A "Be on the Lookout" (BOLO) was issued and Mobley was spotted, clad only in boxer shorts, walking down State Road 11 around 11 a.m. on Wednesday. Law enforcement established a perimeter in the area but Mobley was able to evade capture.  The densely wooded area made it difficult to track the suspect and air support was not available due to weather.

The next day, (December 12), a resident called 9-1-1 around 1 p.m. to report he'd seen a man, clad only in boxer shorts, walking on State Road 11 near Cody's Corner. FCSO responded and this time, found Mobley in the woods and took him into custody.

“If you steal a vehicle and need gas, Flagler County isn’t the right place to stop,” Sheriff Rick Staly said. “This guy was on the run from us for over 34 hours but we knew with the community’s help and good police work we would find him. Now he has a room at the Green Roof Inn. If he’d checked in sooner, he might not be so tired. This is another example of the community seeing something and saying something. Thank you to the community for calling in tips and to our deputies for not giving up until he
was in jail.”

Mobley is being held on no bond. He has active warrants from Volusia County but no prior arrest history in Flagler County. Additional charges are pending further investigation.
