DeLand, FL - Officers responded to DeLand High School earlier today after receiving a report regarding a planned shooting.
But, after searching every classroom, police found out that the student who "heard" the threat actually made it up.
Around noon today (February 20th), the DeLand Police Department tweeted that DeLand High School was placed under lockdown over a rumor that was overheard at the campus.
According to police, their preliminary investigation found that another student overheard a conversation between two other students about shooting someone and it was reported to school administration.
After searching every classroom, officers lifted the lockdown. Once the lockdown was liften, police found out that the student who supposedly heard the threat made up the story. That student will be charged as a juvenile with disruption of a school function.
