DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. - A teenage boy was murdered in Daytona Beach last month, according to a new report from the Daytona Beach Police Department. The method was not gunshot nor stabbing, but neglect.
DBPD officers were called to the scene of 112 Carolina Lake Drive on January 1st of this year, in the Carolina Club apartment complex near the intersection of Dunn Ave and Williamson Blvd. There they found the victim, a 14-year-old boy.
Emergency responders took the victim to nearby Halifax Hospital just a short drive to the south. There, he was pronounced deceased. The DBPD's statement on Friday described the boy's condition as 'obviously neglected'.
An autopsy was performed by the Medical Examiner some time after the boy died. The results of the procedure determined that his cause of death was homicide. No criminal charges were filed in the immediate aftermath of the killing, and it remained that way for over a month.
On Friday, the Daytona Beach Police Department announced that charges had been brought against their primary suspect in the case. Talia Nelson has been arrested on charges of first degree murder, aggravated manslaughter of a child, and aggravated child abuse.
