Three Jailed Following Leslie Drive Shooting

Port Orange, FL - Three 19-year-old males are facing charges after a verbal dispute led to shots fired.

Port Orange police say officers were called to a home off of Leslie Drive around 1:30 Monday morning (August 3rd) after receiving reports of a shooting.

When officers arrived, the victim said three males came to the house in a light colored minivan and fired several shots following a dispute. Police report that the shots were fired at or near the residence where the victim and his family were located.

The vehicle fled the scene but was soon stopped by the South Daytona Police Department as the vehicle entered their jurisdiction.

All three occupants were taken into custody and identified as Gabriel Eduardo Couso, Joshua Scott Lacey and Malachi Nevaeh Shumate, all of whom are 19-years-old.

Port Orange police report that a confession was obtained during questioning. The trio was then charged and transported to Volusia County Jail. The gun that was used in the shooting was also found in the van.

Couso was charged with aggravated assault with a firearm and tampering with evidence, while Lacey and Shumate were both charged with principle aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.

Volusia County Corrections also reports that the trio was additionally charged with loitering/prowling. Couso remains in custody on a $8,500 bond, while Lacey and Shumate remain in custody on a $3,500 bond.
