Time Running Out For Mainland H.S. Students To Sign Up For Makeup AP Test

Posted

Daytona Beach, FL - Parents of students at Mainland High School are running out of time to return letters to the school pertaining to students who took 'placebo' AP tests during the past school year. Volusia County School Board Chair Carl Persis said they made certain with the College Board that the plan outlined in the letters is in line with established practices. They got approval before proceeding.

The district contacted each participating parent/student outlining the opportunity to enroll in an elective Research course. The standards for this course will be addressed by incorporating the basic content of the AP Seminar course as well as other support features. Students who take the research class will take the official AP test at no cost. Students who get a score of 3,4 or 5, they will be eligible to receive college credit.

Persis said that each family was informed if they were part of the group who took the AP exam or were part of the much larger population who took the school-sponsored end-of-course exam. They need to make a decision regarding participation in the Research course which comes with an opportunity to take the AP exam in May of 2020 by this Wednesday.
