Daytona Beach, FL - The Tom Staed Veterans Memorial Bridge opens to traffic on Thursday, August 6 but due to COVID-19, the long-awaited opening will be low key. The bridge is finished more than 18 months behind schedule.

There will be a ceremonial vehicle processional across the bridge beginning at 8:30 a.m. to mark the vehicular lane opening.  The procession will begin on the west end of the bridge. Staed, who the bridge was named for, was a prominent area hotelier and Korean War veteran who died in 2013. His widow, Barbara Staed, will lead Thursday’s processional over the bridge.

Members of the Volusia County Council and representatives from the City of Daytona Beach  will also be part of the processional.

The bridge opens for traffic immediately after the procession.
