New Smyrna Beach, FL - The Florida Highway Patrol (FHP) is investigating a head-on collision that killed one driver and seriously injured another early Sunday morning (September 13th).
Troopers say a sedan driven by a 39-year-old Sanford man was, for an unknown reason, driving west on the eastbound side of State Road 44 just a mile west of Tomoka Farms Road.
At some point, the driver of that sedan hit another vehicle that was being operated by a 39-year-old Pompano Beach man head-on near the intersection of SR 44 and Taganana Drive.
The driver of the westbound sedan was pronounced dead at the scene by first responders. The driver of the other car was reported to be seriously injured by the accident, per a release from FHP.
The crash remains under investigation.
