DeLand, FL - The Volusia County Council gave approval to two ordinances that will affect Volusia County beaches. Item 10 on Tuesday's agenda sets the rules regarding parking of buses, RVs, and tractor-trailers on the coastal beach parks parking areas and the beach approaches. Senior Assistant County Attorney Paolo Soria said the ordinance is pointed at large vehicles parking on the beach overnight. "It is applicable to all vehicles. It's a default prohibition to parking from 11 p.m. to 5 a.m. unless otherwise signed or permitted by the county."

An ordinance that will allow electric bicycles, electric scooters and other electric motorized devices on portions of the County beaches was approved unanimously.  They will be prohibited in the natural beach management areas and the conservation zone. Beach Safety Director Andrew Etheridge said his staff already has experience with electric motorized devices. "We do have a little bit of a history with it already. I think this ordinance brings everything in line with what's being done. We can bring it back at the end of summer if you'd like to readdress it at that point."
