DeLand, FL - Today's (January 7) Volusia County Council agenda began with the swearing-in of newly-elected, Jeff Brower and Danny Robins, and re-elected, Billie Wheeler and Heather Post Council members.
Newly-elected Chair Jeff Brower said it's an important moment for all of us. He said that these are tumultuous times. There's fear. There's suspicion. There's downright hatred for each other. But there's also opportunity. "I want to just offer a few remarks, as a plea, to each one of you, because you truly are the government. We are your servants. The purpose of government is to protect your God-given rights."
Brower also said that the most important task that faces the Council will be to bring people together, to fuel a sense of belonging and neighborliness, to encourage peace, prosperity, and liberty. "I would like to charge this Council to view protecting your voice and your power, and your rights as our chief aim."
As for the Vice-Chair position, Heather Post nominated Barb Girtman while Dr. Fred Lowery nominated Billie Wheeler. After some discussion, Wheeler got the nod by a vote of 4-3.
