Voluntary Home Buyout Available For Hurricane Irma Damage Victims

Daytona Beach, FL - The state of Florida has allocated funds to help homeowners affected by Hurricane Irma.

And those funds will help run the Community Development Block Grant-Disaster Recovery Voluntary Home Buyout Program for those who received damage from the storm.

The program was created to encourage risk reduction through the purchase of residential property in high-risk flood areas with the goal of reducing the impact of future disasters.

The acquired homes will be demolished, and the property will remain open space in perpetuity.

"The requirements are stringent and there is only a small window of opportunity, but we want to let residents know this program is available," said Emergency Management Director Jonathan Lord.

To qualify for this program, homeowners must:

  • Have received damage from Hurricane Irma
  • Obtain an appraisal for the fair market value for both the land and the structure
  • Obtain an estimate to have the structure demolished
  • Sign and submit a voluntary participation form by July 29th
  • Have a completed application submitted by July 31st
