DeLand, FL - Thousands of meals are being provided to Volusia County residents through a partnership between Volusia County Emergency Management and area food banks. More than 126,000 meals are being provided to families in need.
“We know that this pandemic has created challenges for individuals in our community who were already struggling, as well as those who are facing these hardships for the first time,” said Volusia County Emergency Management Director Jim Judge. “That’s why we submitted a request to the state to donate meals. In working with area food pantries, we’re able to leverage our community partnerships to ensure our efforts are as wide-reaching as possible.”
The supplies are donated by the State of Florida and packaged to provide five meals per box. The meals are already being distributed through these participating food banks:
Funding is also being made available through the Relaunch Volusia: Feed a Family Grant Program. The funding is made to eligible nonprofits for the purchase and distribution of food to County of Volusia residents suffering negative financial consequences of the COVID-19 pandemic. So far, more than 38,000 bags of food have been given out; each bag feeds a family of four for one week.
