Volusia County, FL - Volusia County Fire Services has lifted the outdoor burn ban for the county's unincorporated areas and several municipalities.
The burn ban, which has been in effect since April 28, was officially lifted at 12:01 AM on Saturday, June 10. The repeal applies to the county's unincorporated areas along with Oak Hill, Lake Helen, and Pierson.
“The rains we have received this past week have reduced the wildfire danger,” said Chief Jeff Smith, Volusia County Fire Rescue Director. “We ask residents to be mindful of standing water and use caution when driving in the afternoon thunderstorms as these storms can become severe.”
Even though we've had a lot of rainfall recently, Smith says it's always important to practice wildfire safety. Residents should never throw cigarettes from moving vehicles nor should they park a hot car or drive all-terrain vehicles on dry grass. Outdoor grills and fires should always be attended and completely extinguished. And, finally, lawn mowers and farm equipment should be checked regularly to make sure their spark arresters are working.
