Deltona, FL - Volusia County wants to help families entertain children and teach them about the ecosystem around them and the history of the county.
Usually, that would be an easy enough task to handle, especially with places like the Lyonia Environmental Center and the Historic DeLand Courthouse. However, with businesses and attractions closed down, going out to explore Volusia seems near impossible. Thankfully, the county found a way to bring it all to you in the comfort of your own home.
Now, with a few clicks, you can take Volusia's latest virtual tour through different locations around the county, such as the LEC and the adjacent Lyonia Preserve.
The online tour, which went live last week, will allow "visitors" to take a virtual stroll around the 4,000-square-foot nature center as well as the preserve.
To navigate, click on the green circles to move around from location to location, the virtual tour provides panoramic views of the center’s grounds and exhibits.
Along the way, there are information circles, photo icons and embedded videos to click on to make the tour a multimedia experience – bringing the viewer up close to nature pictures and exhibits such as manatee and scrub jay educational displays.
"Visitors" are also able to stroll along a trail in the Lyonia Preserve. While on the trail, viewers can look at trail maps and stop to watch videos and read educational panels that tell all about the plant and animal life in the
preserve. Also, if you want to take it to the next level, the tour is compatible with virtual reality headsets.
“We’re excited to be able to give the public a new way to experience the environmental center and preserve from the comfort and safety of their homes,” said LEC Manager Sandy Falcon. “This truly is the next best thing to being here.”
And those aren't the only stops on this virtual tour of Volusia. Residents can also take virtual tours of the Historic DeLand Courthouse and DeBary Hall, featuring the same amenities found on Lyonia's virtual tour.
