Volusia Schools Reaches 3-Year Deal With Support Staff

Daytona Beach, FL - Less than 24 hours after inking a "historic" three-year deal between itself and the county's teachers' union, Volusia County Schools does the same with the union which represents those who support those teachers. An agreement was reached this afternoon (October 31st) between VCS and Volusia United Educators-Support [VUE-S], made up of clerical personnel and paraprofessionals. VCS Superintendent Tom Russell says this agreement wraps up all negotiations will all the unions which represent VCS workers. "Raises are coming to our hardworking employees and now we can put our entire focus on student achievement," Russell added.
Like with the teachers, VUE-S workers will get an average raise of 7.5% over the next three years, retroactive to this past July. Those workers will also get a $350 bonus for this school year. VUE President Elizabeth Albert says she's happy to get all the negotiations done with. "We made significant gains in the areas of salaries, working hours and conditions," Albert stated. AFSCME - the union which represents all the trades workers at VCS - reached its agreement with the district earlier this month. The latest agreements will need to be ratified by union members and the Volusia County School Board before they can take effect.
