Volusia Schools Superintendent Will Not Extend Contract

DeLand, FL - Dr. Scott Fritz, the superintendent of Volusia County Schools, will not extend his contract.

That’s according to an email Fritz reportedly sent to staff on Monday (March 28). He called his time at VCS “the greatest experience in my 30 years of public education,” but did not elaborate on his decision not to extend his contract.

It’s also unknown if his decision is linked to his health. In July 2020, Fritz requested emergency leave from VCS in order to receive treatment for stage three rectal cancer, which he was diagnosed with earlier that year. He returned to work in February 2021, saying he completed treatment and made a full recovery.

Just recently, the school board canceled a meeting on Tuesday (March 22) where they would have reviewed Fritz’s performance before making a final decision.
