Palm Coast, FL - The City of Palm Coast is giving Waste Pro seven days to resolve a breach in their contract before the city pulls out of the agreement.

City leaders are citing non-compliance as the reasoning behind the notice, stating Waste Pro has missed collections above allowable limits, missed routes, streets and even whole neighborhoods. According to the city, Waste Pro has stated issues with collection range from a lack of employees to not having enough hours in the day.

“Garbage collection is an essential service for residents of Palm Coast and the City is dedicated to providing timely and consistent service to residents," said City Manager Matthew Morton. "The collection lately has been at unacceptable levels and we will not sit idly by and let this continue."

The city also stated in a press release that officials have repeatedly notified Waste Pro over the past year of deficient services and worked to address an "increasing breakdown in communication" between the city and Waste Pro Waste Pro on missed collections and uncompleted routes.

City officials added that the lack of service has resulted in at least 4,565 complaints over the past six-months, even after a memorandum from Waste Pro indicated that service would return to satisfactory levels.

The city even went as far as to fine Waste Pro for failing to comply with the contract, which totaled out to $29,280 in fines between January 1 and May 25.

As a solution to the problem, the city is seeking out additional haulers in the event that Waste Pro is not able to remedy the situation within their allotted time frame. They have until next Wednesday (June 2) to resolve their breach before the city terminates their contract.
