DeLand, FL - Florida Highway Patrol is investigating a fatal crash in West DeLand that killed a bicyclist attempting to cross the road.

Troopers say a sedan operated by an 18-year-old female and another sedan driven by a 34-year-old female were headed north on Spring Garden Avenue around 10 p.m. on Saturday (October 25th), with the 18-year-old in the outside lane and the 34-year-old in the inside lane, as both approached Euclid Avenue.

At some point, a bicycle rider, whose identity and age is still pending, exited the parking lot of a business on Euclid and prepared to cross the roadway from the southwest to the northeast. But, when the rider pulled into the outside lane they were stuck by the 18-year-old female, which propelled the rider northwest and into another lane of travel where they came to rest. The rider was then struck by the undercarriage of the 34-year-old female's vehicle.

The rider was pronounced dead by rescue crews at the scene. The crash remains under investigation.
