TALLAHASSEE, Fla. - Governor Ron DeSantis has declared a state of emergency for 33 of Florida's 67 counties due to the potential for a tropical storm forming in the coming days. Invest 93L, a storm system being tracked off the gulf coast of the state, is expected to become a named storm sooner rather than later.

Neither Volusia nor Flagler counties are among the 33 who received an emergency declaration, so locals in and around the Daytona Beach area likely won't need to make preparations. Still, those who live on the gulf coast should anticipate the first major storm impact of the 2023 hurricane season.

“I signed an Executive Order issuing a state of emergency out of an abundance of caution to ensure that the Florida Division of Emergency Management can begin staging resources and Floridians have plenty of time to prepare their families for a storm next week,” DeSantis said. “I encourage Floridians to have a plan in place and ensure that their hurricane supply kit is stocked.”

A full list of affected counties is available on Governor DeSantis' website.
