Ex-Holly Hill Police Chief Not Indicted for Harassment Allegations

Posted

A grand jury declined to indict former Holly Hill Police Chief Jeff Miller this week, following accusations that he'd sexually harassed female employees of his agency. Miller resigned in March, after an internal affairs was released detailing a series of inappropriate actions he was alleged to have taken, as well as making the workplace environment thoroughly uncomfortable.

Testimony was given to the grand jury by the women who've come forward with accusations against Miller. Among other things, he's been accused of exposing his genitals to them, manipulating a female officer into sexual activity with him, and sexually objectifying the women of the Holly Hill Police Department.

The attorneys representing Miller in his battle against the accusations said he will not be seeking a re-entry into the law enforcement profession, and that his life is forever affected by what they say are unfounded accusations.

In addition, to Miller, multiple other employees of the Holly Hill Police Department submitted their resignations over the course of the investigation. Former Captain Christopher Yates and former Sergeant Shannon Fountain were both placed on paid leave back in March. Yates resigned in May, while Fountain resigned in June.

Beyond that, Holly Hill Police Investigator Michael Ballentine was suspended without pay after he reportedly posted an invitation to a city employee saying, "we are going to get her drunk and laid...not in that order".

Prior to his resignation, Miller had worked with the Holly Hill Police Department for almost eighteen years. He was promoted up through the ranks of the agency to the position of chief, earning a six-figure salary.
