Los Angeles, CA - For almost two weeks, Flagler County Land Management firefighter Mike Orlando has been in California to help contain two wildfires that have already ravaged more than 100,000 acres.

The first fire Orlando was assigned to was the "Lake Fire," a 31,000 acre fire north of Los Angeles, where he was tasked with ensuring there were no hot spots that could reignite.

There, Orlando also worked with two fellow Floridians from the State Park system.

Come Monday (August 31st), Orlando and his crew were  reassigned to the “North Complex Fire” near Quincy, California, which is north of Sacramento. The fire is also made up of three separate fires totaling 62,200 acres.

“The North Complex Fire is currently only 40% contained, and has over 1,500 firefighters onsite with more on the way,” he said. “We will be working in the Plumas National Forest in Northern California.”

As of Wednesday (September 2nd), Orlando began his 11th day of a 21-day deployment in California.

“Our crew is humbled by these fires, and grateful to be given the opportunity to help our fellow firefighters across the country,” Orlando said.
