Unincorporated Volusia Residents Asked to Place Helene Debris at Curb

Posted

In the aftermath of Hurricane Helene, the Volusia County government has released a guide to residents of unincorporated Volusia County on how to dispose of yard debris. Residents are being asked to move regular yard waste to the curb for their scheduled waste collection day.

Residents are asked not to exceed the equivalent of eight 32-gallon containers, not in excess of four cubic yards, per household, per week. Additionally, palm fronds and tree limbs should be neatly stacked without any need for bundling.

Limbs should not be over four feet long or one foot wide, and any one should not weigh over 60 pounds. The county also asks not to mix yard waste with other waste.

Those who need an alternate disposal method than leaving yard waste on the curb also have the resource of Tomoka Landfill (1990 Tomoka Farms Rd, Port Orange), which is open Monday through Saturday from 7:00 am to 5:30 pm. More information on avenues for disposal can be accessed by contacting the Volusia Solid Waste and Recycling Division by calling (386) 943-7889.
